Whatever “Twill” Be…

Yes I know, corny right?? 🎵Que’ sera, sera🎶 lol. That’s kinda how I felt this month. I’ve been out of the loop a bit, and I kinda lost my sew-jo. So when we were asked to create something with new fabrics I thought,” oh no 😥 not woven!” But the colors are so pretty I have to try. Let me tell you, this stuff is nothing like any stretch twill I’ve seen before. It has almost a silky quality to it. Definitely not the stiff stuff like khaki pants I had in my mind lol! But now I’m even more worried… This is beautiful and I’m going to ruin it, the pattern I have is to simple, this is not going to work!

I chose the Half Moon Atelier Roma skirt as my base….

Mostly because it was cute and super simple. I haven’t made anything but bowties with wovens in forever. And because it would be simple to alter. Most woven patterns dont fit my curvy hind end so I knew I would need to tweak a few things. So the pattern goes to a 49 in hip😖. Yea not happening I needed to add 10 inches to that. I also wanted an elastic waist because let’s face it, I’m just not ready to tackle fitting a 59 in hip and a 43in waist!

I added my adjustments and whipped up my skirt. (Seriously, like 30 minutes mostly doing the elastic lol) and ugh I didn’t like it, or so I thought….. what do you think?

Sometimes simple is not so bad after all. 🎵Whatever “twill” be, will be!🎵 TTFN!

Dreams Deferred…

When I was 11 I begged my mom for a fit and flare dress like all the girls on tv… all pretty girls. I never thought I was one of those. I was a quiet nerdy girl who didn’t quite fit in… She tried and tried to make me that dress but couldn’t get it to fit my size 10 top, 8 waist, and 14/16 hips. I needed to stick to things made for my shape… and so it began.

Yea this is 2 year old me, not a care in the world…

17 yr old me. By then I learned to hide behind my mask. But In my mind I still wasn’t good enough or thin enough so I decided to hide behind clothes the longer and baggier the better. It took me years and years (and many, many incidents I’ll save for later) to realize that hiding didn’t make me look better or feel better. It fueled my darkness. I finally learned that I deserve to be seen and I deserved to be happy. My girls also fueled my quest for confidence. Sewing allowed me to blossom. Enter the Patterns for Pirates Sweetheart dress… My dream dress! 12 year old me did a little Paula Abdul dance lol! But would it fit??? Well here’s the difference… First knit fabric! This beautiful cherry rayon spandex and black power mesh from Phee Fabrics would do the trick!

Next grading… when I started sewing I used the big three patterns… you know the standard kind. I just could not get them. They were to complicated to me an so hard to fit. But indie patterns gave me just enough umph to give it a go! For this pattern I cut a 1x through the shoulders and 2x bust and waist. The circle skirt is extremely forgiving so I cut the 2x waist as well. The result is a great fitting, fun dress that makes me feel amazing!

The fabric feels wonderful and the quality is top notch. Now if you’ll excuse me I have a hot date with this guy…

Happy Sewing!

Size Matters

Or does it??? I know that’s what we hear a lot. But does it really? Have you ever found a pattern you really like, and get disappointed because it doesn’t come in your size? I know I have. Sometimes you move on to a new pattern. But sometimes it’s just one you really want…. That’s what I did! I love the Winter wear designs Trendy tank because of the low v- neck and the simple construction. I fit the bust measurements but I had to grade out for the hips. It was pretty simple. I subtracted the pattern measurements from my hip measurement and divided it by 4. That number is how many inches needed to be added to each piece.

I added 11/2 inches to each piece cut on the fold.Three inches on each side for a total of 6 inches added through the hips. I also added 4 inches in length to make a cute nighty…. with Valentine’s day around the corner I wanted something cute but slightly sexy lol!

I made the P4P summer kimono to complete my outfit. This cream and dust pink rayon spandex makes me want to stay in bed all day!

Hope it’s warmer on Valentine’s day 😊! Happy sewing!

Double Duty

It’s that time of year again… Time for our little ghost and goblins to come out an play! If you’re like me, it’s also a time to let your imagination run wild! I work weekends at a local amusement park and we are not only allowed but encouraged to dress up for Halloween. But who wants to spend bunches of $$$ on something you wear once a year? So our phee challenge was to come up with something that can be worn again! So my idea came from a pinterest search (yep I totally went down a rabbit hole)

This dress simply called to me. So I had to go on a search to find a pattern that would work. I used the Halla’ Agnes (free w/code in their group) I made the maxi length and added the 2 splits. This lush black circular knit did the trick! Now I have a sexy date nite dress! What a treat!

My sexy dress definitely does double duty in my phee-tacular Goth Glam! I let my inner 90’s dark child out. I added some of phee’s wide mesh to amp up the grunge!

Or Esmeralda the Gypsy woman….

I have so many more ideas in my head. I just love Halloween! Have a Phee-nominal one!
